A Walk Through The Garden
The Mediterranean garden is finally starting to look full. I never thought it would achieve the density of planting I had envisioned. The goal was always to not see any soil. And this year it might actually get there.
In the last year I have been packing the garden out with grasses, chives and adding seeds constantly.
I've also been weeding this area consistently. The garden bed fills with feed grasses, thistles and other weeds from the neighbouring fields. I think I'm getting slightly better at differentiating weeds from my desired seedlings.
I'm also pleased that it's mostly foliage and green with flowers throughout, rather that a mass of colour.
The olive trees I planted mostly as wind breaks are finally starting to get some height. Gardening for me, is all about developing patience.
Since we got rid of the fish, the pond has stayed perfectly clear and needs almost no maintenance at all.
This is the first year I noticed that all the pink flowering plants come out first: The ornamental apricot, nectarine and peach trees all one after the other.
Still waiting on the cherries, apple , clematis and wisteria.
The top garden (ex fire-pit garden) is slowing filling out but so, so, so weedy. One at a time I suppose. Come high summer they'll all die back anyway, but I want it to be pretty all year round.
Last autumn, I decided I'd try winter veg in containers and planted out spring onion, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli and Romanesco. They were remarkably easy to grow, and I really didn't need to water them at all.
We've been eating them as they've been growing and they've been really so beautiful and tasty, but after a lot of thinning I've had to move them into a proper bed to allow then to get to their full size, and also to clear out the containers to raise more seeds.
'Til next time.

Enjoyed your pics Beck.
