The daffodils, jonquils and snowdrops have faded, but there is so much in bloom at the moment.
One of my favourite trees in the whole yard is looking spectacular at the moment. The weeping Ornamental Cherry Prunus Subhirtella Pendula ‘Alba’. I'm so glad I planted this front and centre and fully visible from the patio.
Our Nashi Pear '
Shunsui' also has beautiful cherry blossom style flowers. We only bought a Nashi to pollinate our Packham Pear. Both fruited last year .
And Nashi's brother, our Packham Pear.
I recently moved this cherry
'Prunus spp' (for the second time). It was here when we moved in but looking quite sad. I nursed it back to life however had never flowered before now so I'm very excited to see it it fruits this year.
I'm having success with my meadow/no mow this year after a disaster last year. It's full of bees, ladybugs and flowers. I think the orange ones are a type of calendula, they come back en masse every year. I will never be rid of them so I'm embracing them. The violas are very sweet.
An unexpected surprise in the meadow, a broccoli! Last year I had so much trouble with aphids on my broccoli but there's so much wildlife in the meadow, the broc has stayed aphid free! (Thanks 🐞)
I have only recently bought a big pot of
Stipa Gigantia for height in the Mediterranean Garden which I divided as soon as I brought it home and it's blooming beautifully and adding height as hoped. It's currently about a metre tall but can get to 2 metres apparently.
A beautiful Australian Native,
Hardenbergia Happy Wanderer. I've got these growing on wires to hopefully get a hedge kind of feeling. They're only 30cm tall at the moment, but I know these are very vigorous so I have my fingers crossed.
I have been in love with these
Armeria Sea Thrift flowers for so long. I had seen them at college and would wish for them all the time. I struggle to spend $14 on a tiny pot plant but one day I did. I planted it out and it was happy. I then started researching which plants are good to divide and took a big breath and started the surgery. It was a success and now I must have about 15 Armeria around the yard. I still love them so much.
I was gifted a bunch of freesias and I think they are so sweet. They also smell lovely.
And they look divine next to another of my favourite which is not in bloom at all but has the most spectacular foliage
Heuchera Coral Bells Marmalade. Another plant I've had wonderful success in dividing and now have several punctuating the Hardy Tropical gardens.
Blueberries are looking like they might have a good year this year.
And my
Camellia Japonica is so lovely. She's only about 50cm tall but has delighted me with about 8 10cm flowers. Gorgeous but short lived.
I have so many plants in bud and I can't wait to see them as the weather warms up, Let the REAL spring begin!
