My First post. An Introduction To Me and My Garden.

I'm Berz.

I live in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania.

I am obsessed with my garden.

My partner, Gudge, our wonderful cat, Percy and I bought our house in 2020 and in that time I have developed such a love of gardening and developing our 1030sqm block.

I have another blog, Beck's Modern Life which I have been writing for 13 years and I adore writing that blog so I thought to myself, why not document my gardening journey in a new blog?

How it started:

Photo's from when we brought the property.

And as it winter 2025.

I have divided the garden into areas including,

The Mediterranean Garden

The Pond Area and Cherry Tree Garden

Fire Pit Garden

The Meadow

The Hardy Tropical Area, which is probably my favourite. (Pics from Spring last year)

There's also the front yard and the very-very-back.

Where we live is USDA Zone 7, which means we get down to around minus 5 deg C with harsh frosts. Our springs are cool and wet with occasional late frost. Summer usually begins in January and is dry, very very dry, a proper Mediterranean Climate. No rain for months. April and May are our beautiful Autumnal months and as close to perfection as you can get. And our long, dark winters are from June through to Aug, but I count September in there as well.

We only use tank water and catch what we can from the average 600mm rain per year and can store around 13000Lt. Our block faces North (huge blessing in Tasmania) and we have beautiful rich agricultural soil (we're surrounded by cherry farms).

I think that covers most on the intro points. I look forward to sharing my gardening adventures with you.
